Review of Elite Dangerous VR

Elite Dangerous Review

Elite was one of the first major space adventure and simulation games out there so when it first launched people were ecstatic with the possibilities offered by this great game. With Elite: Dangerous and the inclusion of VR, there are tons of new possibilities that you can access.

Aside from being an amazing space exploration game, Elite: Dangerous also allows you to engage in battles, experience space trading and do just about anything you want.

They did integrate some singleplayer options that focus on a campaign, but those are not that fleshed out even though they do offer a lot of variety as a whole. It’s amazing how much you can get done with Elite: Dangerous once you start it, and the fact that you are free to explore the space as you see fit offers amazing replay value.

When it comes to the VR side of things, the virtual reality implementation is actually very good for Elite: Dangerous. The planets look really well and you actually feel like being at the helm of your spaceship. It’s very realistic and while it might be scary for some, it does make the battles a lot more immersive and exciting, something you will appreciate quite a lot.

Even after playing for around 2 hours without any pause I did not experience any dizziness, so Elite: Dangerous does come with VR done right. I also liked the fact that you can modify some VR options in order to make the experience right up your alley, and that’s always a plus. They could have integrated some

The game world is procedurally generated and there are thousands of galaxies for you to explore. This game doesn’t hold your hand though, in fact it doesn’t help you that much as you are in control from the beginning. That on its own manages to offer plenty of variety as you play and the experience is more than solid all the time.

Graphics are very good for Elite: Dangerous, and that surely manages to make Elite: Dangerous a lot more interesting. It’s just a pleasure to peruse the planets and if you add in VR you are in for a an amazing treat. Everything in this game is created with the utmost attention so the character models, ship models, the galaxies and the VR experience as a whole is delivered with the best quality and great results.

Elite: Dangerous is a very good game, but I feel that playing it in VR is the best option. Sure, you will need to take a break from time to time, but the title is extraordinary and filled with great opportunities. There’s always a new planet to check out and exploration to be made, so you should give it a shot whenever you can. The best way to play Elite: Dangerous is with VR and by exploring the vastness of space. It might be cool to do some missions too, but having the ability to peruse the space using virtual reality was one of my standout moments this year!

  1. Nice review. Question though, if you were to rate this game out of 5 stars how much would you give? Is it possible to take pictures inside the game using the VR device like in PC gaming using Steam overlay? Thanks!
